Start a Student Org

So you want to start a new organization?

In order to be considered for recognition as a new student organization at Occidental College you must first register with the Office of Student Life on the lower level of the Johnson Student Center.

Typically the window for starting a new organization on campus is the first couple of weeks each semester. This provides us with the opportunity to consolidate the training of new officers and the completion of the administrative processes. After the deadline each semester, an organization may still complete the packet to be ready to begin the following semester. Below are the steps to getting your organization recognized.

Step 1: Contact the Club Commissioner

Contact OSL

Send an email to Justin Gerboc, Assistant Director of OSL at clubs@oxy.edu to start the process moving.  You’ll get an email back with information and paperwork for the next steps.

Step 2: Meet with the Club Commissioner

Meet with OSL
At the first meeting we’ll discuss your club’s goals, contributions to campus, and plan for longevity as well as the next steps in the process.  For those organizations engaging in high-risk activities, there may be some additional steps necessary to iron out details.

Step 3: New Club Orientation

New Club OrientationOnce you turn in the last of your paperwork, you will set up a New Club Orientation to learn the basics of people, resources, and policies for clubs. There will usually be two meetings for orientation – one with OSL, and one with ASOC.
