Daniel Fineman received his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College. His M.A. and Ph. D. were obtained from Princeton University. His primary fields of interest are American Literature and Literary Theory. The individual authors who have garnered most of his time are Melville and Dickinson. His secondary fields are gender studies, film, photography, science fiction, and British Literature. His publications and presentations have been scattered in these areas. While often over-committed to campus politics, Professor Fineman now tries to apply more of his academic energy to his teaching and writing. His greatest pleasures and fascinations resides with his wife and two daughters. Whatever emotional energy remains tends to be quickly absorbed by his cats and dogs. In July, he will usually be found in Port Orford, Oregon where he is preoccupied not by the glorious scenery but by repairs to the hut he there calls home. Professor Fineman sometimes mistakenly believes he has a “philosophical” sense of humor, but this additional flaw may be ignored without fear of substantial reprisal.
